An Extended Time Away.
I know, it’s been a while since my last update.
Between work, a trip to Texas, and even moreso, August’s “Month of Metroid”, it’s been a busy time for this little gamer.
So what’s the latest in gaming news?
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
If you have a Wii, yet have been aching for a game that shows off the system’s graphical prowess, the wait’s finally over. Prime 3 is beautiful. The best looking of the Prime games, and with the control set-up, it’s the best playing as well.
As novel as the idea was with Link swinging his sword in Twilight Princess, one never felt in full control of the movements. Metroid makes you feel like you’re in full control (believe the hype, “Advanced” control is the only way to play). It’s the most immersive adventure game on the system yet, and while the game is criticized for being “too easy”, I think it’s simply due to the natural feel of the control set-up. They even have cool bonuses you can earn and trade with friends similar to the Xbox live set-up. While this is an in-game feature, I REALLY hope Nintendo chooses to keep this feature in upcoming games.
So yes, non-stop Metroid praise, and frankly, it’s worth it.
Other Nintendo news? The NSider Forums are… gone, I guess. At least from what I gather from their front page. At least it doesn’t sound like it’s coming back from the way they chose to write the text. Shame, too. I liked all of the goofiness that went on in there. Other bummer news is the absence of Neo Geo games. They were supposed to be out this past Summer, then last week, and they remain MIA. I’d like the chance to get to experience some of these games without the $200 price tag.
On the plus side, Turbografx CD games have been announced for the Virtual Console, and Smash Bros. Brawl has finally been confirmed for Wi-Fi play (about time, Nintendo).
Getting time to play video games has been a chore in itself these days. My latest acquisitions have been an imported Game & Watch Collection for the DS from Club Nintendo, and Parappa the Rapper for my PSP. I don’t think I’ll get the slim PSP. I only play my PSP every so often, and I don’t find the design all that bulky. Perhaps when I get my hands on one, I’ll change my mind, but for now, I’m content.
Do what have you folks been playing these days?
