After my last post, I got into a “Sega” mode, and played a little offline PSO. I got to a few worlds I never attempted before, and for a 7 year old game, it’s still a very pretty title.

It’s no secret to my friends that I am a Spider-Man fan. I even went as the guy for Comic-Con last year. And with tomorrow, I’ll be freaking out in the theaters to watch the web-swinger kick butt against one of my favorite villains: Venom.

I can’t say I approve of the “New Goblin” costume design. It’s less menacing, and more extreme snowboarder on a bad day.

In addition, I’ll be checking out the Wii version of Spider-Man 3, because the concept of using the Wiimote and nunchuk as web shooters holds endless appeal to me (no, I won’t be wearing the costume while playing. There’s s difference between “enthusiasm” and “creepy”). But in seriousness, Spider-Man is one of the few comic book heroes that have translated well to the video game medium.

I played the original PSX Spider-Man title, which got a lot of hype back in the day for its accuracy (and rightfully so). Then the movie games came out, and the second game was just amazing. I’m expecting nothing less for the third game.

I’m hoping Spider-Man 3 marks the end of the initial post-release drought on the Wii. I honestly want to see what the Wii is capable of outside of the ports and the originally a Gamecube title modified into a Wii game. Don’t get me wrong: Zelda and Super Paper Mario are great games, but they weren’t originally made with the system in mind. And with the unprecedented sales and success of the Wii, the developer/publishers are now scrambling to put something out on it. Everyone thought the PS3 was going to steal all the thunder like the PS2 once did. And now everyone wants to be pals with the Wii.

I just don’t want to see “gimmick” games. I want to see games that are actually going to take the Wii’s uniqueness in mind. Spider-Man 3 sounds like it’s going to take a good attempt. I just hope it turns out to be awesome in execution like I’m hoping it could be.
